A socially responsible organisation

Universities UK will be a socially responsible organisation. We will actively pursue improvement, transparency, and accountability in addressing societal inequalities and challenges.

Universities UK will:

Take action to diversify our staff, foster an inclusive culture, and provide equitable opportunities for all.

Increase the representation of diverse voices in our work, enhance accessibility in our outputs, and consider the equality impacts of our positions.

Take the action necessary to become a net zero organisation by 2040, challenging ourselves to be ambitious in the pursuit of that goal.

Support and engage positively with our local communities.

Have the policies and processes in place to be a responsible and ethical business.

UUK responding to future challenges

We must face up to and tackle the challenges within our organisation. In 2023, UUK has both gender and ethnicity pay gaps driven by representation at different levels of the organisation, and our staff body is not as diverse as it should be. We need to show leadership, knowing that we can only achieve the ambitions set out in this plan if we draw on the full range of people and talent in our communities.

We must also play our part in responding to the climate crisis, reducing the environmental impact of our business operations.
